WYCE-GAMBIA is a hidden treasure in a small village of Madina Salam. This place embraces

you with so much love, compassion and kindness.  

WYCE-Gambia NGO has been working in the village for 18 years, helping the development of

one of the poorest villages on the Continent. The village now boasts a Nursery School, a Lower

Basic School (Junior School) and also a Primary Health Care Clinic. The Clinic has helped

stabilise and improve the quality of health of the lives of the people of Madina Salam. It also has

a Working Lodge where volunteers from all over the world have come to assist the work carried

out here over the years.

Throughout your spare time each day you will also be able to be involved with the many activities

taking place at the WYCE-Gambia Lodge as a Volunteer. It is a wonderful way to give something

back to those less privileged than ourselves. Offering your time, skills and energy in the local

school as you engage with the children, helping out at the centre, bee keeping farm, the cycling

workshop, the clinic and more.

The WYCE-Gambia Lodge, based at the heart of the village, is where you will be staying on this

magical adventure.

Manjit and WYCE-Gambia NGO have joined together to organize a Yoga Retreat with a real

difference. It will be an experience of a life-time offering time and space away from our busy lives

as we go back to basics connecting with Mother Nature, detoxing from technology and finding

our true self as we Heal from Within.

Plus, there’s plenty of free time to experience your own sacredness as you go deeper and giving time for self-renewal and reflection. Gentle walks to the local beach or around the village.

 

Everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced Kundalini yogi or a complete beginner.

One of the settings for a morning or evening session is just a short walk to the beach where you

can see the sun setting over the ocean. This in itself offers a truly tremendous feeling of

oneness. Another setting on offer is ‘in the Bush’ where you will also feel ‘at one with nature’.

Your experience will begin at the Banjul airport where you will be met on your arrival by the

WYCE-Gambia Team who will deliver you safely on the 45 minute journey to the village.

Manjit will lead at least 3 daily sessions per day throughout your stay which will include Kundalini

Yoga, Gong Bath, Yoga Nidra, Chanting, Meditation and Relaxation.

Hatha Yoga is a traditional branch of yoga that focuses on the physical postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) to promote physical and mental well-being. It aims to balance and harmonize the body and mind through a combination of physical exercises and mindfulness practices. Hatha yoga is often seen as a foundational practice for other yoga styles and emphasizes the importance of balance, flexibility, strength, and relaxation. It is a holistic approach to improving overall health and achieving inner peace and clarity.

Yin Yoga is a slower-paced and meditative style of yoga that primarily targets the connective tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, rather than the muscles. It involves holding passive stretches for extended periods, typically ranging from 3 to 5 minutes or more, with the goal of promoting flexibility and releasing deep-seated tension. Yin yoga also encourages mindfulness and introspection, making it a practice that not only benefits the body but also nurtures mental and emotional well-being. It complements more dynamic and muscular yoga styles, providing a balanced approach to physical and mental health.

Kundalini Yoga supports detoxification in the body and you feel the positive rejuvenating effects fast. It is a healing and transformational practice - blending movement, meditation, mantra, and breathwork (pranayama). Kundalini yoga is for everybody regardless of their age or physical ability. You do not have to be particularly flexible or fit. It is a perfect form of yoga for beginners yoga right through to the more advanced. All you need is an open heart and mind.

Take this time out to rejuvenate your body and mind. Be inspired to live a healthier life, improve your well-being, remove toxins from your life, feel happier, look younger, and live longer. This retreat is the perfect opportunity to dive deep into the healing practices of Kundalini yoga.

Yoga Nidra literally means yogic sleep.  It is an ancient technique where the practitioner enters the deep states of conscious relaxation.  It is a systematic practice of moving awareness from our external world to the inner world.

It brings us to a state of deep sleep where our senses, intellect, and mind relax. We become free from the concepts of time, space and reason. When this happens, brain activity reduces and the body goes in the healing state. Therefore, it is also said that one hour of yoga Nidra can give the same benefit of a four-hour sleep. As the body enters a healing state, you can clear up the toxins at a cellular level, refresh the mind and remove baggage from the subconscious.

Qi Gong is a mind-body practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and philosophy. It involves a combination of gentle movements, postures, breath control, and mental focus to cultivate and balance the body's vital energy, known as "qi" or "chi." Qigong is believed to promote physical health, mental clarity, and emotional harmony by enhancing the flow of qi through the body's energy pathways. It is often used for relaxation, stress reduction, and improving overall well-being, and there are various forms and styles of qigong practiced for different purposes, including martial arts, healing, and meditation.

Gong Bath is a deeply relaxing & blissful experience, where you are bathed in sounds waves from Gongs, Singing Bowls and other magical instruments are you drift into a deep meditative state.  Everyone's experience of a Gong Bath is different, and can differ every time.. The Gong Bath is helpful for relieving stress, anxiety and dealing with emotional issues, as it tends to bring you into a blissful state, that can last way beyond the session. (please note this session is not suitable for pregnant women, if you fitted with a pacemaker of suffer from epilepsy)

Breathwork SOMA Breath uses rythmical breathing and breath retention, music with binural beats, and guided meditation. This is designed to bring us to a state of heart coherence, which allows us to feel energised but relaxed at the same time. 

We can achieve many things with breathwork, it can be used for deep relaxation, improved sleep, increased energy and fitness, reduce stress, anxiety and depression, to boost your immune system and even cure illness and disease. 

There's many different types of breathwork but we will be focusing on, rythmical breathing, breath retention the exhale breath hold known as "Nisshesha Rechaka Kumbhaka" and the inhale breath hold known as "Antara Kumbhaka". 

Rythmical breathing - Breathing to beats, to the count of the music, for example 4 in and 4 out. In through the nose and out through the mouth. 

Breath retention - Nisshesha Rechaka Kumbhaka, we hold the breath out.

Antara Kumbhaka, we hold the breath in.
